Summer Workshop @ Cascade Park Community Library
This summer, we held a crochet workshop at the Cascade Park Community Library in Vancouver! The workshop was open to all experience levels, whether you had never picked up a crochet hook before or were already a veteran to the craft. It was completely free to attend and we provided all the materials, so everyone could just come in and give crochet a try.
We had a really great showing, including a couple of families, which was really cool to see. There were lots of parents, kids, siblings, and friends helping each other throughout the workshop. I got to talk to people about the projects they were already working on, help beginners learn new stitches, and watch them get the hang of it super quickly. Some people even got good enough to start helping their friends or family, which was awesome. It was also so funny seeing how invested some people got when they were trying to lock in and figure out a stitch.
Our leadership team also swooped in to help facilitate the workshop and teach beginners, and they did an amazing job. I really appreciate everyone who helped out, including our advisor. We also had some experienced crocheters from the community come and share their knowledge and examples of projects they had made, which was super generous of them. It was really cool seeing newer crocheters get inspired by what they could eventually make.
By the end, a lot of our beginners had already gotten the hang of making chains and even single crochets! I also managed to finish a tiny granny square in the time we had, lol. But honestly, the most fulfilling part was seeing everyone start to get it. There’s something really satisfying about watching someone struggle with a new skill at first and then suddenly have that moment where it clicks.
I hope everyone had a fun and enlightening experience and left wanting to keep learning. Hopefully some of you will pick up your hooks again and make some projects of your own! We’ll have more workshops in the future, so check our Events tab to see if we have any coming up.
